JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

California Lawyers for the Arts (C.L.A.) is a non-profit, tax-exempt service organization started as Bay Area Lawyers for the Arts in 1974 and as Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts-L.A. in 1985. The two organizations joined forces in 1987 to form California Lawyers for the Arts, which now maintains offices in San Francisco, Santa Monica and Sacramento. Programs and services are designed to enhance the careers of artists and stabilize arts organizations by helping them understand and apply legal concepts and negotiate conflict situations without going to court. As an equal opportunity employer, C.L.A. encourages people of all cultural backgrounds to apply.

Examples of ongoing programs that may be accepting internship applications include:

Lawyer Referral Service, which annually refers over 1,200 Californian artists and arts organizations to our panel attorneys;

Arts Arbitration & Mediation Services, which assists disputants to resolve their arts related controversies through conciliation, mediation, arbitration, meeting facilitation or early neutral evaluation;

Educational Programs, which provides part day or full day seminars on special topics of interest to a particular sector of C.L.A.'s membership (e.g., taxation, music business, forming a nonprofit organization, artist's housing);

Arts & Community Development, which provides arts jobs training, placement and mentoring opportunities for interested teenagers and adults.
