JOBS AND INTERNSHIPS

Updated 05/07/08:
Membership Coordinator at California Lawyers for the Arts

This is a 12 hours per week staff position in the San Francisco office, involving the processing of new memberships and membership renewals using a FileMaker Pro database. In addition to these duties, involving data-entry and preparing mailings, the Coordinator will increase C.L.A. membership with new membership development initiatives. Finally, the Coordinator will work with our Executive Director to track donations in the database and send prompt and appropriate thank-you letters.

Experience or interest in marketing would be helpful. C.L.A. can train on FileMaker databases and the Macintosh system, although candidates experienced in FileMaker are especially encouraged to apply, and if hired will be encouraged to improve the database. Careful, accurate data-entry is essential. The Coordinator should have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Reports to the Systems Coordinator. Starting pay is $13 per hour. A six-month commitment is desired, as is the establishment of a regular schedule. Possible days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Legal Intern, San Francisco office

We are currently accepting applications for legal intern positions with California Lawyers for the Arts' Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) in the San Francisco office.  LRS refers clients to members of the C.L.A. Attorney panel for consultation on a wide variety of art-related matters such as copyright and trademark protection, contract review and negotiation, business partnerships and nonprofit incorporation.  Interns will interview clients and perform case intake; they will draft brief legal memoranda to attorneys, presenting the legal issues and relevant facts, and locate appropriate attorneys for clients.  Interns will also assist with educational programs.  Internships are unpaid but we can provide an opportunity to earn credit through your institution.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest and a current resume to Amy Kaizuka at California Lawyers for the Arts, Fort Mason Center, C-255, San Francisco, CA 94123.  Materials can also be faxed to (415) 775-1143 or emailed to ak(at)calawyersforthearts.org. No phone calls please.

Examples of ongoing programs that may be accepting internship applications include:

Lawyer Referral Service, which annually refers over 1,200 Californian artists and arts organizations to our panel attorneys;

Arts Arbitration & Mediation Services, which assists disputants to resolve their arts related controversies through conciliation, mediation, arbitration, meeting facilitation or early neutral evaluation;

Educational Programs, which provides part day or full day seminars on special topics of interest to a particular sector of C.L.A.'s membership (e.g., taxation, music business, forming a nonprofit organization, artist's housing);

Arts & Community Development, which provides arts jobs training, placement and mentoring opportunities for interested teenagers and adults.
