Music Publishing in Plain English

With Jon L. Duman, Esq.

Geared toward musicians, songwriters, entertainment attorneys and other aspiring music industry professionals, this introductory workshop covers basic terms and concepts, such as copyright protections & registration, songwriting collaborations, publishing contracts, licensing agreements, and a breakdown of various music publishing income streams and concepts (including mechanical royalties, ASCAP/BMI/SESAC, synchronization deals, digital opportunities and more). A ‘must attend' workshop for anyone interested in how money is made from the commercial exploitation of music!
 
Presenter: Jon L. Duman’s San Francisco Bay Area-based entertainment law practice emphasizes music business and arts/media-related intellectual property matters. Jon Duman’s client list includes a diverse array of musicians, songwriters, music publishers, producers and recording artists, including members of such iconic groups as The Commodores, Tony! Toni! Toné!, Sly’s Family Stone, Neil Young’s Crazy Horse, E40’s Click and the Bay Area’s Hieroglyphics Imperium. In over 20 years of practice within the entertainment industries, Jon Duman has negotiated favorable deals for his clients with such ubiquitous media brands as Warner Music Group, Sony Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Fox Sports International, Apple, Inc./I-Tunes and Google Inc., among numerous others.  In addition to regularly participating in workshops and panel discussions covering a wide range of entertainment industry topics. Jon Duman has also taught “Legal Aspects of the Music Industry” at San Francisco’s Globe Recording Institute and “The Business of Media” at Expression College for the Digital Arts, in Emeryville, California.
