Fashion Law Primer: Protecting Your Designs

With Rachel Fischbein, Esq.

Presented by California Lawyers for the Arts in collaboration with the Metal Arts Guild.

You have created unique designs for your fashion business, but how can you protect those designs from competition? This Fashion Law Primer will help you develop a protection strategy by providing an overview of the basic ways to protect your fashion and accessory designs -- especially metal arts and jewelry. Join CLA and the Metal Arts Guild to learn what types of intellectual property rights are available for apparel and jewelry designs, and how you can use contracts to further protect your rights. The discussion will include copyrights, design patents, trademarks; plus licensing and 3D print technology.

Presenter: Rachel Fischbein, Esq.

Rachel Fischbein is the founder of Law On The Runway. She primarily assists fashion and beauty entrepreneurs as they build the foundations of their companies and navigate contractual relationships.  She has been published by Women 2.0 and Young, Fabulous, & Self- Employed Magazine. Ms. Fischbein is also on the board of directors of PeoplewearSF a nonprofit supporting the Bay Area fashion industry.

In Collaboration With The Metal Arts Guild:

The mission of The Metal Arts Guild is to foster community, provide education, and promote Bay Area metal artists and jewelers. We accomplish this by hosting events, providing technical and social media resources, encouraging collaboration between organizations, and outreach to local and global communities.

The Metal Arts Guild is made up of metal arts enthusiasts from a wide range of backgrounds, who are creating a community through sharing news and events, ideas, resources, galleries, techniques and questions about the metal arts. Everyone is welcome to join: from the beginner to the master craftsperson, teachers, and students, metal arts collectors and more. Each member is a vital part in making the Guild work for our community.
