Many musicians aren't aware of how to protect their intellectual property and avoid infringing on others. In this presentation, Shakila Miller will address the following: What procedures need to be taken to sample a song? What is the difference between composition rights, sound recordings, and performing rights? What are the consequences of sampling without a license and infringing upon another artist’s intellectual property? These topics and more will be addressed. Q and A included.

Presenter: Shakila Miller-Brewer is the Managing Partner and Owner of The S. Miller Law Firm. She is an attorney focused on helping creators, entrepreneurs, entertainers and designers. Shakila practices entertainment law, soft intellectual property law, and handles business formation. Shakila is licensed in the State of Texas, the Southern Federal District Court of Texas, and pending admissions in the State of California.
