This workshop will review the legal and practical issues for terminating a copyright transfer. This valuable termination right is available to authors and heirs to “re-capture” their copyrights once transferred in written agreements to third parties. Transfers could include those made by songwriters to publishers, recording artists to record companies, authors to publishers, etc. This program will explain the best way to recapture rights and will detail the technical requirements involved in effectively exercising this right.

Presenter
ERIK BERTIN is an attorney advisor in the Office of the General Counsel at the U.S. Copyright Office. Before that he was a senior associate in the intellectual property group at Dechert LLP's where he worked with the former Register of Copyrights, Ralph Oman. Erik holds a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree in English from The Johns Hopkins University.
